A Whole Organisation Approach
The Sustainable Turning Points Framework

Sustainability cannot be achieved through isolated initiatives or individual projects. Organisations often develop sustainability strategies or policies, yet struggle to translate these commitments into everyday practice. This gap between intention and implementation is one of the most common challenges in sustainability work.

At Sustainable Turning Points, we take a whole organisation approach that recognises sustainability as a systemic process rather than a stand-alone initiative. Meaningful change requires alignment across leadership, organisational culture, learning processes, and relationships beyond the organisation.

Our approach focuses on four interconnected areas that shape how sustainability is understood, prioritised, and enacted within organisations.
Leadership &
Governance
Leadership and governance structures shape organisational priorities and accountability. Sustainability commitments must be supported by clear leadership direction, transparent decision-making processes, and policies that integrate sustainability into core organisational functions.

Our work in this area focuses on strengthening how sustainability is embedded within leadership structures, governance frameworks, and strategic decision-making. This may include reviewing policies, clarifying responsibilities, and supporting leadership teams to align sustainability goals with organisational strategy.
Learning &
Capacity Building
Embedding sustainability requires more than policies; it requires shared understanding, skills, and confidence across the organisation. Staff need opportunities to engage with sustainability concepts, reflect on their relevance to their roles, and develop practical capacity to act.

We support organisations to develop learning processes that foster meaningful engagement rather than one-off training events. Through workshops, facilitated dialogue, and collaborative learning processes, we help organisations build the knowledge and capacity needed to integrate sustainability into everyday work.
Organisational
Culture
Organisational culture influences how values are interpreted and enacted in practice. Informal norms, everyday routines, and institutional expectations often shape behaviour as much as formal policies.

Our work in this area focuses on understanding how sustainability is experienced within the organisation and identifying opportunities to strengthen alignment between values and everyday practices. This may involve facilitated reflection, organisational analysis, and collaborative processes that support cultural change over time.
Community &
External Partnerships
Organisations do not operate in isolation. Partnerships with communities, civil society organisations, suppliers, and other stakeholders play a critical role in shaping sustainability outcomes.

A whole organisation approach recognises the importance of building constructive relationships beyond organisational boundaries. We support organisations in strengthening external partnerships that align with sustainability goals and contribute to broader systems change.
